8th graders 3rd in midstate math competition; Xing, Thiel, Le win individual honors

The Webb School traveled to Middle Tennessee State University April 12 to attend the Middle School Math Competition. There were 204 students participating today from approximately 20 schools throughout the midstate. MTSU was one of four sites hosting the competition throughout the state today.

"For the sixth graders, it was their first time to participate in this contest, and they competed admirably," said Lea Anne Windham, Math Department chair. "The seventh graders collectively increased their scores from last year and were just a question or two from breaking into the top 20." She added, "The eighth-grade team scored high enough to place third in the competition behind East Middle from Tullahoma and Woodland Middle from Williamson County."

Those placing in the top 20 individuals and receiving ribbons were Leon Thiel at 15th and Jessica Le at 12th. Nathan Xing won a medal for placing seventh overall.

Participants included: 8th – Nathan Xing, Leon Thiel, Caroline Whitaker; Jessica Le; 7th grade. – Ava Foulk, Jesse Joslin, Carter Sublette, Noah Creque; 6th grade – Gabriel Crisp, Camille McCamey, Hannah Joslin and Gracie Hensley.

"Congratulations to all who participated and to the winners. I was very proud of all of them," Windham said.
