Three students from The Webb School's String Orchestra program were accepted into the annual Mid-State Orchestra in Murfreesboro through the Middle Tennessee State Band and Orchestra Association (MTSBOA). Carrie Simmons, ninth grade bassist, and Ava Foulk, seventh grade Violist, participated in the event. Alex Schuler 10th grade cellist, was also accepted but was unable to participate due to getting the flu.
These orchestras provide talented students the opportunity to pursue and expand their studies outside of school. Students auditioned in November and December to earn a spot, from which judges chose a select number of students from the Middle Tennessee region to perform. Approximately 10 hours of rehearsals culminating in final concerts took place at Blackman High School in Murfreesboro with hundreds of other musicians from dozens of schools Jan. 24-26.
"Congratulations to these hard-working and talented students," Susan Mullen, string orchestra teacher, said.
