Webb’s Diversity Statement

Diversity Council - The Webb School

As a private coeducational college preparatory boarding school, serving students continuously since 1870, The Webb School provides a rigorous academic program that also emphasizes personal integrity, civic responsibility, and leadership. An essential component of our ethos is that every member of our school community, including students, faculty, and staff, are respected and supported as unique individuals. The Webb School believes that fostering an environment that is ethnically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse is essential to enhance critical thinking, inform intellectual debate, and comply with our obligations as a true preparatory school for our students to go onto college and beyond.

The Webb School has a diverse student body, attracting students from both locally in middle Tennessee and from all over the world. We embrace the opportunities to learn, study, and work in the richness of a diverse environment characterized by understanding, respect, and acceptance. We therefore strive to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion as an essential aspect of preparing Webb graduates for a life of service and success.

Student Diversity Council

With a membership of 19 students, the Council has been designed to help educate and involve the student body in creating a more inclusive atmosphere at Webb. Working with a sponsor from the Student Affairs Team, the Council is responsible for sponsoring monthly cultural events, Diversity Week, educating the student body through Chapel presentations and all-school events, as well as helping to find service opportunities that target underrepresented communities. Council members have the opportunity to attend student DEI conferences. The Council provides leadership opportunities for US students.

"I am proud that we celebrate every student at Webb. By celebrating every student's uniqueness, we foster an environment that allows each student to reach his or her full potential. We believe at Webb that we all learn better together."
