Meet the Coaches

Buck Smith has taught English and coached clay targets at Webb since 2016. He earned his Master’s in English from Belmont and earned his undergraduate degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He has two daughters currently at Webb.

 

 

 

L.R. Smith followed Sawney's path from North Carolina to Bell Buckle in 1978. where he spent the next thirty-eight years teaching History in all grades. He currently teaches Ethics, along with Tennessee Hunter Education, the Chapel program, and the Clay Target program. He is a graduate of The Asheville School, Guilford College (B.A.), and UNC-Greensboro (M.A.). His beloved, Moira Judas Smith, is The Webb School Foreign Language Department Chair, and their daughter, Caroline Smith Pryor, is a 2011 Webb graduate.

Dr. Phillip L. Patterson, Sr., known on the field as “Doc”, graduated from Memphis University School, University of Mississippi (BS Chemistry), Southern College of Optometry (OD), also held academic and graduate student positions at University of Memphis (Teaching Fellow, Biology) and University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences (Research Associate, Endocrine Chemistry), has had a private Optometry Practice since 1973. Matt Wilson has worked at Webb since 2012. He is currently Director of Alumni and Development. He assists the clay target program as Assistant Coach. He attended Vanderbilt University for his bachelor's degree (Economics) and Master's Degree (Higher Education Administration), and worked at Vanderbilt in the Alumni and Development Office for 12 years before coming to Webb.
