Brody Curry, most recently head women's basketball coach at Sewanee: The University of the South, has been named head girls' basketball coach at The Webb School.
Curry is a cum laude graduate of Sewanee with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and earned a Master of Business Administration from Lee University.
He played basketball at Sewanee from 2013-2017 and was captain of the team through the 2015-2017 seasons. He was chosen All-Conference in both his junior and senior years. In his final year, he was selected as the team’s Most Valuable Player and was named All-Region in addition to his All-Conference designation.
After finishing his playing career, Curry followed his college coach to Lee University, where he served as a graduate assistant coach for the men’s team, helping them earn trips to their conference championship tournament. After completing his master’s at Lee, he returned to Sewanee as an assistant men's basketball coach and oversaw recruiting, player development, weight-lifting program, Sewanee basketball camps and promotional media. He also served in athletic operations and taught a Lifetime Fitness class.
Curry was promoted to head women’s coach, leading the overall health and success of the program, budgeting, scheduling, fundraising, player growth, assistant coach development, recruiting, and player development. He also served as an athletics diversity representative to help create and maintain equitable environments for his colleagues and students.
"From the outside looking in, it’s easy to see that Webb is a special community," said Curry. "I can’t wait for my family to jump in and build new relationships. I’m looking forward to serving however I can." He added, "I’m excited and thankful to be a part of investing in these girls and continuing to move Webb basketball forward.” Recently meeting players and their parents via a Zoom Curry told them, “I am a relationship builder. I want you to know that I have your back and will fight for you until my last breath. I use basketball to help teach life and build better humans. I will love the team and the community fiercely.”
"Not only are we excited to welcome Coach Curry, but we are also excited about the team of coaches who will invest in our girls and their parents," said Athletic Director Jena Jones. "Coach Tia Stovall will continue to serve as head middle school coach and also assume the role of associate head varsity coach. Coach Conswella Johnson will continue to teach, mentor, and coach our varsity girls, as well." Jones added, "It is a very strong team. We are excited about the future of our Webb girls’ basketball.
Curry succeeds Coach Matt Shewmake, whose teams won three consecutive state championships and recently was named girls' basketball coach at Montverde Academy in Florida.
