On September 30, The Webb School Department of Athletics once again hosted the Tennessee Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association’s (TIAA) Middle School Championships. In addition, over 20 varsity cross country teams gathered on Webb’s 150-acre campus for the Meet in the Middle Invitational.
Beneath a sun-kissed sky, the Middle School girls’ cross-country team clinched the TIAA title, with Catherine Myers ’31 (1st place; 13:22), Avery Blackwell ’31 (2nd place; 13:23), Phoebe Lea ’32 (4th place; 14:28), and Lyla Victory ’31 (8th place; 15:49) crossing the finish line in the top 10 to seal the deal. Close behind them in the two-mile race were Cadence Garcia ’31 (16:48) and Charlotte Ducan ’31 (16:57), who finished 12th- and 13th-place, respectively. Individually, Myers, Blackwell and Lea also earned 1st-, 2nd- and 3rd-place TIAA medals against each eligible opponent.
From the Middle School boys’ team, George Myers ’31 (11:14) battled Donelson Christian Academy’s Thomas Dixon to finish 1st by just seconds in both the race and TIAA Championships. Carlos Mendez ’31 also medaled in 5th place after finishing in 12:38 for the Feet.
Leading the way in 3rd-place for the Varsity girls’ cross-country team at the Meet in the Middle Invitational was Mary Myers ’28 (20:54). Meanwhile, her teammate Hendley Jackson ’28 came up just short of a medal after placing 11th in 22:08. We are so proud of our two seniors, Danica Crowley of the Varsity girls’ team, and Khy Corlew of the Varsity boys’ team, for finishing the season strong, with the latter knocking approximately two minutes off his personal record during Wednesday’s meet.
