Middle School Program

Our Middle School Curriculum

Webb is a supportive community where students are challenged to succeed. Regardless of their daily schedule, faculty members have a special bond with the students in their dorm.

The middle school curriculum at Webb is distinguished by personalized education, with a 7:1 student to teacher ratio.

The Middle School offers a rigorous academic program that prepares your child for upper school success. Students complete required courses in English and humanities, mathematics, history and world geography, science, world languages, art and music.

Sixth Grade Focus

Sixth graders participate in a Focus class three days a week; in which they utilize tools in a variety of disciplines including technology, writing skills, reading comprehension, library skills, and organizational study skills. Students also extract, contemplate, and discuss the Honor Code through applications as they read four novels in the classroom.

Every student also has a faculty advisor who serves as a personal advocate and mentor. Students have scheduled advisory meetings two times per week. They also meet once a week with their advisor for a group activity that focuses on character development.

Advisor System

Every student has a faculty advisor who serves as a personal advocate and mentor. Students have scheduled advisory meetings two times per week. They also meet once a week with their advisor for a group activity that focuses on character development.

The advisor plays a key role in the student's experience at Webb and also serves as the liaison between parents and the school.

Extra Help

Each day, teachers are available in their classrooms to help students for a 45 minute class period called Extra Help. This time is built into our students' schedules, and they quickly learn to take advantage of it.

In addition, Upper School students are selected to be peer mentors to Middle School students who may need additional help during their Extra Help period.

Learning Center

The Webb School’s Learning Center consists of the study center and two levels of academic support for eligible students.  The goal of the learning center is to meet the individual needs of students best to promote a successful academic and social experience.

All 8th graders have a study hall period in their schedule and 6th and 7th graders have a study hall period that rotates twice a week.

Personalized Education

New 7th and 8th grade students are taught study skills during the first quarter. Classes meet one period each week and are taught by the Director of the Study Center. This allows for these students to gain the same skills that are taught during the first quarter of the 6th grade Focus class.

In this way, the new middle school students in 7th and 8th grade will be on the same level playing field as the 6th graders by the time they enroll in the upper school at Webb.

At Webb, we believe that each person has unique gifts and capacities and a responsibility to develop them.

Our Middle School Fine Arts Program

With both an international and national reputation, The Webb School's Fine Arts program is admired for the breadth of its course offerings and the outstanding quality of the school's faculty. Middle School students at Webb are introduced to musical, theatrical and visual arts courses offered, including piano, guitar, pottery, speech and choir.

The faculty members, who have degrees from some of America's finest conservatories and universities, give their students both outstanding instruction (in private lessons and classes) and insiders' views of the fine arts as working professionals.
