The Webb School continued a long-standing tradition of honoring seniors during the annual Senior Blazer Day. On Nov. 11, the South’s oldest, continuously operating boarding school hosted the ceremony and 77 members of the Class of 2023 were presented their Webb blazers. Clint Hall, a 1998 graduate and an alumni board member, was the guest speaker.

Ken Cheeseman, in his third year as head of school, welcomed seniors, parents, guests, and those who joined the ceremony via livestream.

“It is indeed my and our entire Leadership Team’s and faculty’s honor and privilege to walk with this senior class, The Webb School’s class of 2023,” said Cheeseman.  “They are a fun and funny class in many ways, and they bring energy to our campus.  They are engaged in so many activities across campus, and they are quite accomplished in academics, arts, and athletics.

Addressing the seniors, he said, “In speaking with an alumnus recently about this day and what the blazer meant, she shared that it is important for each of you to know that each one of your blazers is slightly to significantly different, fitted just for you. As you consider the uniqueness of your blazer, see it as a symbol that each of you brings a unique set of gifts, talents, and capacities.  You need to know (really know at a deep place in your heart) that you possess those unique gifts and capacities, what they are and that our school will not be its best unless you follow through on your responsibility to develop those gifts and capacities. Additionally, the blazer signifies this faculty’s … pronouncement that you have reached an important and time-honored milestone in the development of your character and your prowess in the three A’s:  academics, arts, and athletics.”

Cheeseman added, “It is my hope, the hope of this entire faculty and staff that in receiving the blazer, you will redouble your commitment to the pursuit of wisdom necessary to lead your generation, here and far beyond our borders, toward justice, mercy, and truth -- an intentional commitment to make the world and your sphere of influence a better place than when you entered it.”

Prior to Hall’s address, the head of school introduced the other three alumni participating in the ceremony: Dr. Tabetha Sullens, Class of 1994 and member of Webb’s Leadership Team as assistant head of school; John Earthman, Class of 1978; and Kristen Linton, Class of 2000 and Webb’s director of leadership annual giving.

“We are proud of these four graduates who reflect well our mission and Enduring Understandings. I offer my thanksgiving to them for their powerful and positive impact on the world and their spheres of influence.

Hall currently serves as the Director of Government Relations for National HealthCare Corporation (NHC). He has worked for NHC since 2009 and is a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator and Preceptor. Prior to working for NHC, Hall was a political consultant, working for the State of Tennessee and managing campaigns for various office holders in Middle Tennessee.
