Science elective has students birding
Rita Mitchell

Ornithology, this year's science elective, is taught by Missy Harden. An aspect of their first unit included students learning the basics for birding. Students learned the parts of binoculars and how to use them, how to identify birds by sight and sound, and practiced the birding code of ethics. To get practical experience with birding, the class often goes on walks or conducts point counts to practice identifying birds by sight and sound. The data is then uploaded to eBird, which is a citizen science online database.
