Henry Allsup, a senior at The Webb School and a member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 95, Birmingham, Ala., recently completed the requirements for Eagle Scout.
Requirements for the Eagle Scout Award consist of three recommendations, 14 required merit badges and seven elective merit badges, with Allsup completing 36 badges, 1-1/2 years of leadership training, an approved service project and finally, successfully passing an Eagle Scout board of review.
To assist Girls Inc. and their art classes, Allsup organized the creation of 12 PVC-made easels, two shelves, and painted an entire wall. Alongside that, he also painted wooden chairs and tables for them. The PVC easels provide new tools for the students to utilize, and the shelves provide more storage for 3-dimensional art projects. By painting over old details with a fresh coat of paint, his troop gave the students a new opportunity to paint on the furniture itself.
Allsup has attended the BSA Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, National Youth Leadership Training and was Den Chief for Cub Scout Pack 88. He also has staffed NYLT's summer camp as a troop guide, and he will be staffing again this winter as the lead cook.
At Webb, he is an Alla Webb Scholar, National Honor Society member, cross country team member for four years, soccer team member for three years and has regularly participated in Webb’s Wilderness Instruction and Leadership Development (WILD) trips. In the past two years, he has completed 60 miles on the Appalachian Trail.
He is the son of Julia McNair and the late Michael Allsup, who was also an Eagle Scout, Scoutmaster for Troop 95 and served on the Vulcan District Eagle Boards and District Committee.
