This is the fourth consecutive year that The Webb School has celebrated the Alla Webb Scholars program to recognize students who have gone above and beyond the call of excellence in community service, leadership, and school activities. This week, The Alla Webb Scholars program honored 24 new inductees, representing 10th through 12th grades.
To be considered for membership in the Alla Webb Scholars program, students must first be a member of the Sawney Chapter of National Honors Society, and then they must complete an application process. Students at Webb are often involved in many aspects of the school in addition to their achievements in the classroom. This program was started to showcase students who have dedicated themselves to pursuits within our school community and in the greater community around us. Because this level of excellence and engagement typically only begins in the first few years of high school, most students accepted to the program are seniors because they have had the chance to truly find their passions and to pour into them for several years. Each year a few truly exceptional students may be chosen in their junior or sophomore year.
The list of all 24 new Alla Webb Scholars for the 2024-25 school year includes: Nicholas Edward Allison, Gavyn Clair Anderson, Grayson Steel Anderson, Julia Callaway, Tayler Lovejoy Church, Alexandra Decker, Nicole Marie dePass, Aiden Brewer Ellis, Anne Marie Florida, Catherine Ruth French, Ilana Lorraine Gunther, Mack Alan Cade Hopper, Jackson Jeffery Howard, Carter Macon Lampley, Jaehyuk Jayden Lee, Sophie Leigh McInturff, Mary Katherine Mosier, Harshita Sunil Relwani, John Micah Robison, Sebastian Miaj Seals-Arnold, Mary-Lane Taylor, Charlotte Maisie Toy, Malinda Grace Wilhelm, and Shanshui Zhao.
Students receiving the Alla Webb recognition were notified during a special ceremony in front of their peers. Previous Alla Webb recipients came to the front of the group and were given roses and the names of this year's inductees. If the student was given a rose, it symbolized their acceptance into the Alla Webb Scholars program. These inductees also received a certificate of commemoration.
"The Webb school has tremendous students with a great deal of passion for the world around them. Many of our students are not only accurate scholars but they are true leaders in their fields," said Pamela Seals, advisor for both groups and Science Department Chair. "In order to recognize this level of commitment, the Alla Webb scholars program was instituted in 2021. This year we were able to admit 24 new students to this program demonstrating excellence in athletics, arts, and academics. They are truly an exceptional bunch of young people who deserve to be acknowledged for all the hard work they do both inside and outside the classroom."
