#105 Sheer delights for the Theatergoer when you win two
tickets to any of the shows at the phenomenal Tennessee
Repertory Theater in Nashville.
Donated by The Tennessee Repertory Theater
#105-A The Santaland Diaries – December 3 – 6, 2008 - This
hilarious one-man show has been one of Tennessee Rep’s most
oft-asked-for holiday productions. Out of work, our slacker
decides to become a Macy’s elf during the seasonal crunch. At
first the job is simply humiliating but once the thousands of
visitors start pouring through Santa’s workshop, he becomes
battle weary and bitter. Taking consolation in the fact that
some of the other elves were television extras on One Life to
Live, he grins and bears it, occasionally taking out his
frustrations on the children and parents alike.
Value: $83
#105-B Glengarry Glen Ross – February 10 – 14, 2009 - This
classic of the American theater is David Mamet at his best.
2009 marks the 25th anniversary of this Pulitzer Prize-winning
drama. This scalding comedy-drama took Broadway and London by
storm when it opened in 1984, and garnered a Tony nomination
for best play. Never has the author’s ear for the rhythms of
contemporary speech been more keen than in this tale of
cutthroat competition among real estate salesmen. In the first
act, the salesmen vie for position as they gulp their
cocktails in the local Chinese restaurant. The second act
shifts to the office where the promising Glengarry Glen Ross
leads have been filched. Mamet’s not-so-subtle reflection on
how bad things happen when vulnerable people are reduced to
targets by unscrupulous sharks unfortunately still resonates
today from the current credit card debacle to the subprime
mortgage collapse.
Value: $83
#105 –C Rabbit Hole – March 24 – 28, 2009 - A brilliant new
play which won the 2006 Pulitzer Prize for drama. Becca and
Howie Corbett have everything a family could want, until a
life-shattering accident turns their world upside down and
leaves the couple drifting perilously apart. Rabbit Hole
charts their bittersweet search for comfort in the darkest of
places and for a path that will lead them back into the light
of day.
Value: $83
#105-D Darwin in Malibu – May 5 – 9, 2009 – Charles Darwin –
120 years after his death – is hanging out in a beach house
overlooking the Pacific with a girl young enough to be his
daughter. His peace is rudely disturbed when his old friend
Thomas Huxley arrives, closely followed by the Bishop of
Oxford. And Darwin suddenly finds himself entangled in an
enthralling and thought-provoking comedy about God, science,
and plastic surgery. You may think you know how such a
discussion would go between the father of evolution and one of
evolution’s most outspoken critics in his day, but you will be
surprised!
Value: $83

This matted Sepia photo of an elderly man playing a banjo is
by renowned fine art photographer, Jack Stoddart. Jack and his
wife moved from Miami, FL in March of 1972. When they moved to
a rural part of Overton County, TN, they had a plan to create
a black and white silver gelatin historical documentation of
the vanishing Cumberland Plateau culture. In 1981, Kevin
Grogan, then director of the Cheekwood Museum in Nashville,
gave Jack a show in the Cheekwood Mansion Gallery. This was
his first recognition on a large scale. He continued to make a
name for himself across the country and has recently been
accepted into the collections of The Morris Museum in Augusta,
GA; the Tennessee State Museum in Nashville, and the Museum of
American History at the Smithsonian. Thirty four years later,
Jack and his wife are recognized as artists depicting rural
American culture in a meaningful and happy light.
