Webb School graduates 48

Posted July 29, 2009

Forty-eight individuals recently joined the ranks of thousands of Webb School students that came before them. On May 29, they received diplomas and the traditional Webb School gift of a Bible—as well as the honor and pride that comes with completing a rigorous course of study.

According to The Webb School Director of College Counseling Jamison Fee, the 138th graduating class is extraordinarily talented.

“Academically they are off the charts,” he said. “They have very high test scores and very high standards for themselves. They are also very involved in extracurricular activities.”

The Webb School Class of 2009 garnered admission to universities that include Yale, Saint Andrews in Scotland, Wake Forest, George Washington University, Cornell, Johns Hopkins, Holy Cross, Vanderbilt, John Hopkins, Princeton, Lewis & Clark College, University of Mississippi, University of South Carolina, Georgetown University, Sewanee: University of the South and the University of British Columbia, among others.

Stephen Graham, a 1965 graduate of The Webb School and accomplished businessman, delivered the keynote address at the graduation ceremony held on The Webb School grounds. Graham is a member of Webb’s Board of Trustees and serves on the development and investment committees at the school. The managing director for Bentley Associates, which focuses on mergers, acquisitions and capital development for smaller and newer enterprises, Graham advised the graduates to seek out exemplary professors at the colleges and universities of their choice.

“Take teachers not classes,” he said during his address. A single professor can change the trajectory of one’s career and one’s future, Graham maintained.
