Parents’ Weekend had it all

Posted September 18, 2012

Parents’ Weekend 2012 kept guests busy as they joined their children in classes and attended a number of other activities. More than 150 people attended the annual event.

The weekend included a special chapel time with a vignette from the spring production of Alice in Wonderland, and string ensemble and choir performances. Presentations by Head of School Ray Broadhead and Director of Admissions Julie Harris were also included.

Ronda Spivey and Natalie Townes, Webb School Parents’ Association and Parents of Athletes of Webb School presidents, respectively, gave brief overviews of their organizations during chapel. Several “witches” set the stage for the annual WSPA dinner and auction, “Spooktacular,” which is slated for Oct. 27, and a group of students helped promote PAWS Webb gear tossing samples into the audience.

Sessions with College Counselor Jamison Fee, parent-teacher conferences, time to tour the campus and lunch in the Grace Follin Dining Hall, capped Friday’s activities.

Friday night, the ‘Light Up’ Lagler field event – a tailgate dinner and recognition ceremony prior to the football game – marked the completion of the Lagler Field lighting project. The field bears the name of the late Imre Lagler, whose service to Webb as a Latin, Geography, German and English teacher and soccer coach spanned 30 years.

The Webb 8-man football team played under the lights for the first time on Friday. Other Webb teams will also benefit from the project that will permit more flexibility in the scheduling of athletic contests at Webb.

During the special ceremony, Ray Broadhead and Scott Dorsett, Webb athletic director, honored donors, volunteers and family members:

--Elizabeth A. Lagler, widow of Imre Lagler and Webb staff member.
