Jenny Matthews Award

Hannah Cartwright, senior of Murfreesboro, received the Jenny Matthews Courage Award at the Spring Sports Ceremony on May 16. The award is named in honor of its first recipient, Matthews, who played and started for four years at Franklin Road Academy despite a great deal of physical pain from an aggressive form of rheumatoid arthritis. The award is presented to an athlete who has demonstrated courage, leadership and determination by overcoming physical or emotional setbacks both on and off the field. Coaches in the former District 9-AA and coaches in the new Class A, middle and east region, sponsor this award. Cartwright, a scholar-athlete is in the top 10 in her class and is a three-sport athlete. Over the past several years, she has had to deal with the tragic and unexpected death of her sister. Despite this adversity, Cartwright has been a positive influence on her school, community and peers.
