Eight students at The Webb School will compete in the 16th annual National Engineers Week Student Design Competition, Feb. 22, at the Hands-on Science Center in Tullahoma.
Two-person teams participating include Cameron Togrye and Will Huddleston, both of Murfreesboro; Tian Wang, China; and Tyler Burns, Danville, Ky.; Kody Khairandish, Iran; and Carson Bryant, Rockvale; and Hae Na Lee, South Korea; and Dongwon Choi, China.
The impromptu engineering design competition will test the students’ creative skills and their ability to work as a member of a team. Each team will receive a design challenge and identical materials for the project on the day of the event.
“It’s great for our students to experience some actual engineering while they're still in high school,” said Kyle Redrow, Webb physics teacher. “It’s also a great application of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) outside the classroom.”
The competition is sponsored by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the International Test and Evaluation Association.
